Salah satu target dari pembelajaran bahasa Inggris ialah mengembangkan ketrampilan percakapan siswa menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Bahasa apapun di dunia ini terbentuk dengan alasan untuk berkomunikasi, oleh sebab itu faktor mampu berkomunikasi harus menjadi target yang utama.
Salah satu target dari pembelajaran bahasa Inggris ialah mengembangkan ketrampilan percakapan siswa menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Bahasa apapun di dunia ini terbentuk dengan alasan untuk berkomunikasi, oleh sebab itu faktor mampu berkomunikasi harus menjadi target yang utama.
Pengalaman saya melakukan pelatihan kepada siswa agar bisa berkomunkasi dalam bahasa Inggris antara lain sebagai berikut. Pengalaman ini ialah pengalaman yang saya lakukan namun bila anda memiliki pengalaman lain itu adalah hal yang baik.
1. Membuat contoh percakapan.
2. Mengajak siswa membuat percakapan yang hampir mirip dengan apa yang saya buat.
3. Meminta siswa mempraktekkannya tanpa membawa catatan.
1. Membuat Contoh Percakapan
Siswa diberikan contoh percakapan. Mereka diajak membacanya dan diajak mengerti apa isi percakapan tersebut.
2. Membuat Percakapan Yang Mirip.
Setelah siswa mengerti apa yang dibacanya, lalu mereka diajak membuat cerita sejenis tanpa melihat kembali pada contoh percakapan. Siswa diajak bekerja berpasangan. Mengenai thema percakapan bisa beragam, namun biasanya siswa diberikan thema yang hampir mirip tapi beda situasi.
3. Mempraktekkan.
Saat membuat mereka bebas menentukan situasi namun dari sisi "tenses" mereka menggunkan "tenses" yang sama, misalnya dalam "Present Tense", "Past Tense", atau "Present Perfect Tense". Namun adakalanya "tenses" dibuat bebas.
Setelah siswa menyelesaikan percakapan secara tertulis, lalu mereka diajak mempraktekkan dengan pasangannya sampai mereka benar-benar mengerti situasinya.
Bila mereka benar-benar telah mengerti, lalu mereka maju ke depan berpasangan tanpa melihat pada teks yang mereka buat.

Dari latihan semacam itu di atas, diharapkan siswa mengerti apa yang mereka ucapkan dan sampaikan pada orang lain serta tahu bagaimana cara meresponnya. Di samping itu, diharapkan juga bahwa siswa akan memiliki rasa percaya diri untuk berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris di depan orang banyak.
Saat sesi praktek tanpa teks, guru juga perlu menyimak apa yang mereka katakan. Jangan memotong percakapan mereka, tapi silakan koreksi di saat mereka telah selesai mempraktekkan percakapannya. Hal ini penting agar siswa jangan merasa serba salah mengucapkan kata-kata bahasa Inggris. Puji mereka atas apapun yang telah mereka lakukan, meskipun mereka membuat kesalahan tata bahasa atau pengucapan. Koreksi dengan bahasa yang halus.

One of the targets of learning English is to develop students' skills in English conversation. Any language in the world is formed with a reason to communicate, and therefore to be able to communicate in English is the main target.
My experience trained students to be able to communicate in the English language are as follows. These experiences were the experiences that I did, but if you have other experience that is a good thing.

2. Invite the students to make conversation which almost similar to what I made.
3. Ask the students to practice without taking and seeing their notes.
1. Conversation Sample
Students are given an example of a conversation. They were asked to read it and understand what the conversation.
2. Create their own conversation.
Once students understand what they read, then they are asked to make a similar story without looking back at the example. The students are asked to work in pairs. Regarding the theme of conversation, it can be vary, but usually the students are given few themes that is almost similar but different situation.
3. Practice their conversation.
The students are free to determine the situation but they use same tenses., for example, in "Present Tense", "Past Tense", or "Present Perfect Tense". However sometimes they are also free to use their own tenses.
When the students finish writing the conversation , then they are invited to practice with a partner until they really understand the situation.
If they really have understood their own story, then they came forward in pairs without looking at the text they have made.

From such exercises above, the students are expected to understand what they say and convey others and know how to respond. In addition, it is expected that students will have confidence to speak English in front of crowds or other people.
When the students are practicing their conversation without text, teachers also need to listen to what they say. Do not interrupt their conversation, but please correct at the time they had finished practicing conversation. It is important that the students do not feel awkward words in English. Praise them for whatever they have done, even though they make grammatical mistakes or pronunciation. Correct them in a nice situation.
